Creating a Dementia-Friendly Environment (seminar description) “CREATING A DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT is designed to educate recreation, activities and healthcare professionals on ways to create positive environments for residents with dementia. Areas covered will include: a dementia overview, types of programs, staff training, managing behaviors, environmental modifications, multi-disciplinary approaches, measuring program success, and tips on getting started. The session will also include a tour of The Front PorchSM, a 60-bed Dementia Special Care Unit. This unit is the only one of its kind in Passaic County and the first within the Saint Barnabas Health Care System. The Front PorchSM unit has received awards and recognition, including a feature story in “Advance for LPN” magazine. Continental breakfast will be provided.
PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - Define the key components of dementia care - Recognize the interventions and skills that support a dementia – friendly environment - Discuss ways to adapt existing environments and programming to support the needs of residents with dementia
