I'm a beach girl! I especially love the beach early in the morning when only the fishermen are there, or during a sunset. I also love going off season while wearing a sweatshirt and just soaking in the energies. It always amazes me that sand is comprised of crushed crystals, minerals, shells, and the like. Plus we know how healing and therapeutic the salt water is. Mega negative ion action is going on at the beach! I always feel so cleansed and refreshed after leaving the serenity of the beach. It's a true spa day for the mind, body, and spirit! Below, I have shared some beach-related activities for you and the residents. Bring on the beach!
Beach Spiritual Activities
Letting Go Beach Activity and Visualization
You can imagine that you are at the beach and writing in the sand all that you wish to let go of. Use as many senses as you can during the visualization. What do you see? How does it feel, smell, taste, and sound? Watch the ocean waves as they clear away the sand and your past concerns go out to sea. You can also have a box of sand out for the residents to "write" in to enhance the kinesthetic, tactile, and visual experience. Play some beach sounds as well.
Salt Water
Salt is cleansing and healing. If you have access, go to a salt-water beach as often as you can. Many people report that they feel so good and refreshed after swimming in the ocean or salt water. I understand getting the residents to a beach can be quite challenging and maybe impossible based on your location, funds, opportunities and so on. If you have access to a beach with salt water and can bring back a few buckets, that would be great. You can also put some sea salt or Himalayan salt in water to create your own version. Residents can soak their feet in a basin of salt water. Note: salt dissolves so if you use a chunk of Himalayan salt, it will dissolve over time. Play ocean and beach sounds or videos to enhance the experience.
Beach Affirmations
Often times an affirmation, also known as an intention, is spoken out loud, to oneself, and/or written on a piece of paper. It’s important to be in a relaxed frame of mind so you can set your affirmation. Light some candles (battery-oprated when needed) or diffuse essential oils, play music, or whatever helps you relax and focus. Affirmations should be very personalized but here are some sample beach affirmations to get you started.
- The ocean waves cleanse my mind, body and spirit.
- I welcome peace, solace and serenity into my life.
- I release all stress and anxiety.
- The wind carries away my concerns.
- The energy of the sun revitalizes my mind, body and spirit.
- I am centered, grounded and present.
- Watch my Beach Affirmation video for solace and peace.
- Watch my Beach Prayer and Blessing video.
Beach in a Bowl
You can make your own mini sand box or beach in a bowl, by pouring sand into a basin, bowl, box, or large shell. Place stones, crystals, and shells in the sand. Please be cautious with this project since small rocks, shells, etc. can be swallowed. This is one of those projects that may require extensive supervision but this is a great one to one activity that can be used for meditation, sensory, reminiscense, peace, and so on. Don’t forget the beach or ocean sounds, and positive affirmations. It’s very relaxing.
Paint or Decorate Beach Rocks and Shells
Beach rocks and shells are very beautiful and grounding. One doesn't need a whole lot of artsy skill to paint rocks and shells. You can paint sayings, pictures, or just use various colors. It's completely up to you. You may also sponge paint or découpage pictures onto rocks and shells!
