National Skilled Nursing Care Week |
 National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formally referred to as National Nursing Home Week, begins on Mother's Day and usually is celebrated for the entire week. This is a great time to educate, advocate, and celebrate all of the work, care, and accomplishments that have been made to provide and offer quality of life and quality of care to those who reside in skilled nursing care homes. Recreation and Activity professionals are often given the task of providing all of the events this week, but I remind the reader that this should be something organized and facilitated by ALL departments. I encourage the Recreation and Activity Directors to have a planning meeting with all department heads and assign tasks accordingly. It really should be a team approach. The 2024 theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 12-18th, is “Radiant Memories - A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio”. The American Health Care Association (AHCA) stated that "this theme embraces a time when the airwaves resonated with captivating stories and melodies. More than nostalgia, "Radiant Memories" is a call to honor the enduring legacy of skilled nursing care centers." You can head over to the AHCA website and download this year's graphics and tools.
