National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW), formally referred to as National Nursing Home Week, begins on Mother's Day and usually is celebrated for the entire week. This is a great time to educate, advocate, and celebrate all of the work, care, and accomplishments that have been made to provide and offer quality of life and quality of care to those who reside in skilled nursing care homes. Recreation and Activity professionals are often given the task of providing all of the events this week, but I remind the reader that this should be something organized and facilitated by ALL departments. I encourage the Recreation and Activity Directors to have a planning meeting with all department heads and assign tasks accordingly. It really should be a team approach.
The 2026 theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week, May 10-16th, is ““Moments in Bloom”! “Moments in Bloom” reflects how everyday acts of compassion, connection, and teamwork grow into meaningful experiences for residents, families, and staff. It celebrates the idea that big and small moments, when nurtured, can flourish to help residents live life to the fullest and with purpose.
